On
Nov. 10, 2002, Brandon Malstrom was stabbed and killed at a homecoming party
in College Park, Md. He was a 20-year-old operations and quality management
major at the University of Maryland, and involved in many extra-curricular
activities. Brandon's death came as a shock and was devastating to his
family, his friends, and the College Park community.
In
the aftermath of this tragedy, Brandon's loved ones found encouragement in
the outpour of support from the community. Many people who knew Brandon, as
well as some who had never met him, gave generously to the Malstrom family.
Paul Malstrom, Brandon's uncle, set up a bank account for these
contributions with the purpose of putting the donation money toward a good
cause. Other fundraising events were sponsored in College Park and in
Brandon's hometown of Phoenix, Md. From these resources, the Brandon James
Malstrom Memorial Foundation was created. Rather than being just a
scholarship fund, the board members designed the foundation to be flexible
and able to contribute to diverse areas.
With the goal of honoring Brandon's memory, the Brandon James Malstrom
Memorial Foundation intends to give scholarship money to young people with
similar interests as Brandon, and to fund community projects. Brandon loved
to skateboard, play lacrosse, and had a diverse group of friends and
activities. In his remembrance, the foundation allocates donated money for
the benefit and empowerment of young people within the Baltimore metro area.
Thank you for your interest in the Brandon James Malstrom Memorial
Foundation. We hope you will continue to keep us in mind, whether you are a
friend or a visitor, and help Brandon's light shine forever through your
memories and hearts. |
